Question
Hello, Recently I bought a handgun, but the Department of justice did not approve my background check.  I have had the following convictions:
*2004 plead guilty to felony possesion of marijuana and recieved 4months house arrest 3 years probation.  this was EXPONGED in 2006
*plead guilty to misdemeanor assault in 2007 on a nurse (counts as peace officer) in hospitable.  Recieved ten days jail-but diverted to community service and probation which was completed.
I have no further current legal issues.  What specifically is stopping my approval, and can it be approved if I persuade them some how?
Thanks

Answer
Marcus... this is a Second Amendment topic, not a Criminal Justice topic.

That said, you have convictions for Violence (assault) and Felony weight narcotics, all within the past five years.

You don't understand why your purchase was stopped by the FBI NICS Check?

It's because you have a criminal record.

You want advice?

#1: Go back to school.

#2: Consult an attorney in your area.

G'luck to you…

I can answer questions about Handguns, Rifles, Ammunition, the Firearms Industry, the "gunzine game," practical accessories for self-defense (CCW) handguns; rumor control on firearms myths, errata on the "gunshop grapevine."

I am NOT an Attorney, and nothing I provide here should be relied upon as legal advice. Therefore, please do NOT make inquiries about Criminal Justice issues... this is the Second Amendment topic.

Nor do I do "Private Consultations." Want to made it "private," retain an attorney.
