Question
QUESTION: I was recently approved for ccw permit in North Carolina, only to have it revoked a month later. I'm now 34 years old, when i was 19 I was arrested for property damage to ex father in laws storm door. I had my record expunged when I was 33. Back when i was 19 they carried me for psych evaluation, one doc said i just lost my temper was fine, they carried me to mental health the next day, was not committed or ordered further sessions. Was not aware of mental health record until I got the call from sheriff to revoke my permit. He said the report said I was suicidal and a danger to my self. I was 19 and immature made a mistake, don't feel this should burden me for the rest of my life.I have legally purchased numerous firearms including handgun with background checks with no problem. I have been remarried 11 years with wonderful wife and 2 beautiful kids.I couldn't be more of a law abiding taxpayer, wondering what to do? Do I need to be revaluated to prove I'm not a threat to society and myself, to over turn decision.

ANSWER: Yes, you must get re-evaluated in good standards.  Send the letter to the office where your psych records are held and to the Sheriff to re-enstate your firearm permit.

QUESTION: By me purching firearms in the past with record checks and no problems, does this mean since ccw permit revoked i'll be on the watch list? I talked to dept head at mental health today, he was very helpful in setting up appointment for revaluation. He said with how my life has progressed he saw no problem to sending sheriff letter,no threat or corncern. I also talked to sheriff,he said if he recived something from mental health ,he could work with it.Sheriff said i was ok,but Brady bill was the problem. Any response to comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ANSWER: If the Sheriff accepts the letter you are good.  The NICS check is new. The old process of purchasing weapons is out the door.  If the Sheriff knows about your mental health visit beleive me the Federal Goverment knows as well.

Good Luck

QUESTION: I just purchased a pistol in march 07, has this changed since then?

Answer
Yes it has.  You remember what happened in Virginia at Virginia Tech.  I'm not saying that if you went to purchase a weapon today you will be turned down, maybe the Gov't does not feel your incident makes you a threat to yourself are anyone else.  Local law can sometime be a lot strict.
