QuestionQUESTION: I applied for a carry permit in Ga. i was denied by chapter 16. i only have misdemeanor possession of marijuana. which was from a group residence in college where we had common living spaces and un-weighable. can i appeal it? and if so how do i? i am an avid hunter and sportsman. does this keep me from buying a hand gun?
ANSWER: A misdemeanor does not restrict your firearm privileges unless it was a domestic violence conviction. Carry permits are for you to be able to carry a weapon concealed, that is at the discretion of the issuing agency. You should be able to appeal to the agency you applied with for the permit. You can also apply for a Virginia and/or Florida non-resident permit. I know Florida has reciprocity with Ga. I'm sure Virginia does as well. If you need the concealed weapons safety course to receive the Virginia and/or Florida permit give me your e-mail address and I will send you all the information for the online course it's $39.99 with 20 easy questions after the video. I can also attach a Virginia non-resident CCW application. If your conviction was longer than 5 years ago you would receive the permit. If not 5 years would have to lapse since your misdemeanor conviction.

QUESTION: ok i went to the court in Douglasville Ga and talked to the judge.he showed me that i had a city ordinance violation from 2003 for parhafinalia. which was a lighter. does that keep me form a permit? i called the court in Missouri and it should have been a sealed file.
AnswerOnce again a firearm permit is at the discretion of the issuing agency. But according to Federal firearm codes you are not restricted from firearms. That does not mean Ga. has to give you a permit. You can be denied a right to carry concealed by any state but you can still purchase a firearm.
