i was released from prision about a year ago and i do not wish to own a pistol but just a rifel to help feed my familay do do i go about getting my long arm rights back

Thanks for asking. You did not say but I assume that you were charged and convicted of a felony. In order to restore your 2nd amendment rights, you will most likely need a pardon or expungement before you can own firearms. I recommend legal assistance before proceeding.
