QuestionQUESTION: When I was 16 in 1993,I was convited of 4 juvenile adjudications, Possesion of stolen goods in excess of $100 & 3 Larceny in a buildings. Will I be able to petition my local gun board for reinstatement of my gun rights? I have not tried to purchase any sort of weapon, so I don't know what will show up on the NCIC. This all happened in MI and was 16 years ago. Thanks.
ANSWER: If your records are sealed you should be cleared but there have been cases where people were supposed to be cleared on their records and it still showed up. You can always petition for restoration of rights but it does not mean they will grant it. If you can have Michigan DCJS run an FBI fingerprint check to see if your juvenile records are sealed or not that would save you a lot of time.

QUESTION: Thanks, I just sent off the FBI fingerprint record request today. I was able to pull up my record on the Michigan State Police background check. I have a feeling that is not a good sign for my record to be sealed. I'll repost when I have an update.
ANSWER: If your records are sealed that is a very good thing.. That will mean you are cleared to purchase firearms and receive a permit.

QUESTION: Sorry, let me clarify. I WAS able to pull up my juvenile adjudications on the
MI state police website. It cost me $10. I have a feeling that this means the
record is NOT sealed. I tried to get a purchase permit at the local sheriff's
dept., and they told me to get lost. If this does show up on the FBI check,
can I do anything to get that corrected? This was a juvenile adjudication in
family court, and IMO, should be sealed.
AnswerYes, it should be sealed. If not you would have to apply for either full restoration of rights or a Pardon. You can also have the record expungd because it's a Juvenile offense. All this information should be in the court where you was convicted check on it and see what they can do for you.
