2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Can I be my own lawyer?

Question
I applied for a Concealed Pistol License, and then bought a pistol which I had to wait a month for. I am finding out that when I was hospitalized for being hit by a truck 4 years ago, some threatening statements I made in the hospital are now preventing me from even owning a firearm. A local lawyer says he can restore my rights for 1500 dollars. Can I do it myself? The actual restriction has to do with a condition of release from the hospital that said I had to check in with a counselor for 90 days and answer about five questions. They are saying that I was committed by doing this, although that is the wrong use of the term. Any advice? I don't want to pay 1500 dollars.

Answer
You can do it yourself but I don't have any knowledge on any mental health restrictions.  I was told a Doctor needs to verify that you are not a threat to yourself or anyone else.  This letter must be submitted to wo ever issues the firearm permits or your NICS appeal process.

Good Luck
