2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/restoration or rights or pardon in wyoming
Expert: n/a - 4/3/2009
QuestionI was convicted of 2 counts of simple burglary in 1997. I was seventeen, and tried as an adult. I was off of probation and all of it at the age of 22. I have two question. 1st: Is it better to try for a pardon or restoration of rights? 2nd: In wyoming does restoration of rights allow me to owm firearms again? I am a born and raised hunter and was just trying to find the best route to take. Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.
AnswerIt's better to get a pardon but much harder. Restoration of rights give you firearm rights only if it is a full restoration of rights with NO restrictions. Some states may give you the right to vote, Jury duty and hold public office but restrict you from firearms. In some states you have to specifically apply for firearm rights. When you start your process your state should have all that information in the application instructions. Enough time did lapse since your release from probation. If your conviction was when you was 17 even though you was tried as an adult you may still be able to apply and receive a Virginia NON-RESIDENT CCW that has reciprocity in Wyoming check them out at Viginia state Police website. Dont hesitate to call and ask them they are very helpful.
Good Luck
