Question
Hello, I have a Class A misdemeanor in New York 25 years ago I was originally convicted for Grand Larceny, only got 5 years probations ansd had to pay fines. no other incidents since them.  My question is whether or not I can legally own firearms.
Thanks - Keisha

Answer
According to the Federal firearm codes you are not restricted from owning firearms, however some states hold certain misdemeanors against you.  In NY the chances of you getting a firearm permit is slim, they will find a reason to deny you.  In most other states you would be clear to purchase a firearm and/or get a firearm permit.  The only misdemeanor that gives you firearm restriction throughout the country is domestic violence.
