Question
I plead guilty to robbery at 17 years old.  My first offenders got violated and was convicted and served out my probation.  I am 30 now and was convicted of a DUI and I completed and finished all requirements.  I have no other offenses on my record.  With all the break-ins recently in my area want some sort of firearm for defense of my family.  Is there any hope to get my ownership rights restored?

Answer
If your 17 year old offense was a youthful offender and not tried as an adult you should be cleared because the records shold be sealed.  Now the DUI is not a federal restriction it will restrict you on the local level for at least 5 years in certain states.  You would have to apply for and eceive a firearm permit.

Good Luck
