2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Restoring rights

Question
My boyfriend had a case in Florida where adjudication was withheld for possession of cocaine in 2007.  He finished his probabtion and was subsequently able to vote in the last election. However, he was denied when he wen to purchase a gun. What can he do legally to have his right to bear arms restored. I have the application for clemency but the process seems quite lenghty and I'd like to know if it is necessary to go that far?

Answer

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately a pardon or clemency is necessary to restore his right to bear arms. Even though he finished probation the charge is obviously still on his record.  Voting rights and firearms rights are two different things.

Best wishes,

Dan
