Question
i have a class c felony for possesion of marajunia. 2 yrs has passed. i was senteneds to county jail not prison. can i own a long gun to hunt with? and what do i need to do to legaly hunt? what if any form do i need? who do i contact? i was convicted and live in new york state. please kindly help! i kindly thank you for your time in this matter!

Answer
You are restricted from firearms, so you cannot hunt with a firearm.  In order to restore your firearm rights you must return to the court of conviction and apply for full restoration of rights.  That would be a NYS Certificate of Relief from Disabilities.  On the application just check box B.  If approved your firearm restrictions are lifted but you must receive a firearm permit afterwards.

Good Luck
