2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/restoration of gun rights

Question
Back in 1999 I was convicted of misdemenor DWI and possesion of crack cocaine, was reduced to misdemenor and I had my record expunged once done with probation. Since I have served 5 years in the U.S. Army and purchased a handgun in Fayetteville NC, I had no problems with background check in NC but after moving back home to CA and trying to register there I was denied. After calling DOJ they told me that my crack cocaine charge prohibits me from having a firearm for life, unless I appeal with NICS at the FBI. What are my chances of winning an appeal with NICS? Also what can I do to better my chances of an appeal?

Answer
Andrew,

Thanks for asking. You would need to get legal help to file for an appeal with the FBI NICS section. California is not a gun friendly state either so this may be why you were approved in North Carolina and not in California.

Best regards,

Dan
