Question
I know the true meaning of the 2nd and that it is really a human right that the government turned it in to a a Civil Right..... But When I just turned 18 (that was 11 yrs. ago) I was charged with Burglary 3rd degree and Grand Larceny Auto $12000.  The offense was non violent and I had not weapons but a set of bolt cutters to cut a padlock. I served 72 hours community service and 1 1/2 yrs probation but got off 4 months early.  I am no 30 yrs old and would like to take my son hunting and also keep a gun in the house for self defense.  I understand that I fall in the area to have it restored in the state of NC but I live in SC.  Do you have any useful info that would help?

Answer
James,

Thanks for asking. Under federal firearms laws you may run into a problem with your records. If you do, you can file to expunge or pardon your records and then you would be clear to own a firearm.

When you go to buy a gun, you fill out a form 4473 and they run a background check.
