2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Additional Township Forms

Question
Hi Dan, My town in NJ has their own forms that they require completion of, (one needs certification) before processing a firearms application.  These are, of course, in addition to the state required forms.  Are they legally allowed to require additional township forms?  If not, are there inherent risks for refusing to submit these supplemental forms?  Can they legally refuse your application?  One form allows them to contact anyone that you reference in your application packet.  Another requires disclosure of all persons residing in your home.  Will they actually contact ALL people referenced? I am being told that by law, a permit must be issued within 30 days of application.  The officer I spoke with said it could take months.  This is legal?  Please advise. Thanks in advance for any input, David

Answer
David,

Your town has the right to require those forms for firearms and yes they can refuse your application. I do not know if they will contact all of those people or not. If you need further clarification I suggest that you contact legal help. It is always best to get legal help in the town in which you reside. They are the most familiar with local laws.

Best wishes,

Dan
