Question
If someone has been convicted of a class e felony in North Carolina, and has had their lifetime hunting license prior to conviction and then spent 4 years in prison can they still go deer hunting or fish anymore after their release?

Answer
Pam,

Thanks for asking. A convicted felon may not possess a firearm under Federal Law so going hunting with a firearm would be out of the question. It does not matter what they had prior to the conviction. He can go fishing however.

Best regards,

Dan

By the way what was your meaning behind "give me liberty or give me death". Please explain! Just because he is a felon now does that mean that if someone were to break in his home with his family there he couldn't protect him and his family?

Pam,

This means be free or dead. Unfortunately, he could indeed protect his family, but when the courts found out he was a felon, the trouble would start. I guess the protection of the family would outweigh the consequences of being a felon in possession of a gun.

He can get legal help to seek a pardon of his felony record.

Best wishes,

Dan
