Question
I was convicted of a felony in 1996 for theft, receiving of stolen property, since then have been a grown up and stayed out of trouble. Is there anything I can do to own a firearm?

Answer
A person convicted of a felony is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law unless the conviction is expunged or set aside, or if the person has been pardoned or has had civil rights restored unless such pardon, expungement, or restoration of civil rights expressly provides that the person may not ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms.

You will need to look into the process for restoration of civil rights or a pardon in the jurisdiction where you were convicted in order to remove your firearms disability.
