2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Texas misdemeanor domestic violence charge

Question
I was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence in Bexar county Texas in 1998. A couple of years ago I tried to purchase a shotgun, for hunting purposes, in Idaho. I was denied, due to my record. Will this charge be forever on my record, denying my ability to purchase a shotgun, or any firearm?
Is there no statute of limitations on such a charge or record?
If there is no statute, then how can I clear my name so I can purchase a gun?
Has anyone tried to challenge this in court?

Answer
Tom,

Thanks for asking. Yes the DV charge will stay on your record and the only way to get it off is to have a legal person file for a full pardon, or to expunge your record. There is no statute of limitations either.

DV is considered a crime of violence and will therefore prevent firearm ownership.
