2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/can I legally own handgun?

Question
Hi Dan,

I submitted for gun ownership today and was denied. I was convicted of a felony (in CA) more than 19 years ago. My conviction was expunged in 2000. I am a voting American citizen and have voted in elections in in CA and also in TN. I currently work as a registered nurse for nearly 4 years. Reason I'd like to own handgun....for home protection and also hobby target shooting.

Thanks for your response.

Answer
Mike,

Thanks for asking about this. IMHO you should be able to own a gun if your record was expunged. It could be that your felony is still showing up on your record. In that case you may need legal assistance to get it cleared up.

Best regards,

Dan
