Question
I live in Iowa and have recently taken the class that is required for a permit to carry after Jan. 1 2011. I got two OWI's in 2007 which on both I was convicted of owi 1sts. Then I was convicted of driving while suspended in march of 2008. Will this prevent the sheriff from issuing me my permit. I don't want to waste my money on the application which is $62.50 if there is no chance in it passing. Thanks.

Answer
Jay,

Thank you for asking. There is a good chance that your record will hinder your permit to carry success. Under Federal firearm laws, two OWI's may be considered as a habitual offender. You can get you records expunged and that would help.
