2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Age requirements

Question
Hello, I was wondering how old one has to be in order to posses a gun larger than that of a bb or pellet gun.

Answer
Your location indicates New York, so I will answer your question with respect to New York law.

NYS Penal Law section 265.05 makes it generally illegal for anybody under age 16 to possess "any gun or any instrument or weapon in or upon which any loaded or blank cartridges may be used." There are exceptions to this general rule. Children ages 12-13 may possess rifles and shotguns for hunting small game under adult supervision, and children ages 14-15 may hunt big or small game under adult supervision with a junior hunting license. Children ages 12-16 may possess rifles and shotguns at shooting ranges under proper supervision.
