2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Purchasing a firearm

Question
I was convicted of a felony in NYS in 1970-possession of a dangerous drug. Finished college and was given a Certificate of Release From Disabilities in 1974. I have resided in Florida since 1974. I know this record still exists since it showed up when I obtained certain securities and insurance licenses. I have had no other legal problems and would like to purchase a firearm and possibly apply for a concealed weapons permit. What impact does the CRD have? Will I be denied on  the NICS check or will it show that I have had my civil right restored? Thanks.

Answer
Paul,

Thanks for asking about this, IMHO, you should be able to pass the NICS check. Most legal mistakes when we are young are forgiven when we get older. I would say go ahead and try to purchase a firearm, to see what happens,

Then you will know whether to proceed to a CCW permit.

Best regards,

Dan
