Answer
Hello, Sonny;

It's probably a good idea to not type with your CAPS-LOCK engaged… it's not only harder for older eyes such as mine to read, but it's considered SHOUTING and therefore poor form.

With my standard proviso that this should not be construed as legal advice since I am not an attorney, if your stepson has not obtained a certificate of Relief from Disabilities, you are certainly correct.

It doesn't matter whether one is in Indiana or Alaska or Texas, without that certificate, your stepson is considered a Prohibited Person, and not, among other things, eligible to be in possession of a firearm.

It would seem that the "drugs / alcohol" have rendered him stupid… or perhaps the other way around: the "stupid" part led him into the drugs and alcohol abuse.

Either way, to the extent that you are able to disabuse him of his ill-informed notion without putting yourself at risk, I would urge you to do so.

I would also hope thay you would be able to enlist the support of his natural parent toward that goal.

G'luck.

I can answer questions about Handguns, Rifles, Ammunition, the Firearms Industry, the "gunzine game," practical accessories for self-defense (CCW) handguns; rumor control on firearms myths, errata on the "gunshop grapevine."

I am NOT an Attorney, and nothing I provide here should be relied upon as legal advice. Therefore, please do NOT make inquiries about Criminal Justice issues... this is the Second Amendment topic.

Nor do I do "Private Consultations." Want to made it "private," retain an attorney.
