Question
17 years ago i was convicted of a nonviolent crime and did 1 year in prison and was on perole for 9 years. My perole ended 7 years ago and i was wondering if there was any way to get my rights to bear arms back so i can go hunting with my family. Thank you

Answer
Hello Kerry,
Yes you can get your right to bear arms again.   You must have your rights restored in the State where you were convicted.  You didn't mention the State but most States have an Executive Clemency Board except for North Carolina and maybe 2 or 3 other States.  New York has a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities that work well.  Florida and Virginia I find are the easiest although the waiting period is at least 6 months but you can get one from Florida and Virginia even if you were not convicted in those States.  Try calling your parole Board for the information or go online and search for your states Executive Clemency.  Good Luck
