Subject: Conviction reversed

Question
I was convicted of two felony 1 counts and sentenced to life in prison in Ohio. After 2.5 years I had my conviction reversed and remanded back to court by the Court Of Appeals. While I was out on bond the indictment was dismissed without prejudice and the case was closed. Now that I'm free and the conviction was reversed how do I go about making sure I can buy a firearm? I'm sure that the felony will be in the database still and may stop me from being able to purchase a firearm.

Answer
You have to get a firearm permit because the NICS check will not pass you without it.   My suggestion is to check your criminal background yourself to see if the conviction shows up and if so correct it with the State and then the FBI.  You should have all your rights restored as if you never been convicted but when it comes to purchasing weapons these days it get tuff.  My opinion is to get a firearm permit even if its a Virginia or Florida non resident permit.

Good Luck
