Subject: Ohio Gun Ownership with expunged record

Question
I was convicted in the State of Ohio in 2000 for Complicity to Felony Theft, Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is what it pretty much what it boils down too. In 2006 I had my record expunged/sealed. The paper shows "All Civil Rights Restored". Can I now buy a handgun and get a CCW permit?

Answer
Hi, Aaron…

I seem to be getting a lot of these type of questions of late, and I have no idea why, as it is not a Second Amendment issue.

Your "record (may be) expunged/sealed," but you are a "Prohibited Person" unless you have a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities which would restore the lost Civil Rights because of your felony conviction.

Whatever your "paper" is, your question would be best addressed by the authority who would issue your "CCW Permit." Check with that agency.
