Question
hi don hows it going i had two dui 6 years ago and a under the influence charge three years ago and i bought a rifle in california a year ago and have now moved to alaska and i was wondering if i can buy a pistol to carry in the woods for bear protection

Answer
No, you will not be able to buy any handguns.  Federal Laws states that your last DUI or DWI must have been at least 5 years old.  I believe that's only for one conviction 2 or more convictions of DWI or DUI may be a worse penalty,  You will have to check on the local laws for that information.  Without first getting a firearm permit I don't think you would past the NICS check in any state for a Handgun purchase.

Good Luck!!!
