Topic: 2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms

Expert: Dean Speir
Date: 4/15/2008
Subject: License, and where can I have my gun?

Question
I live in Louisiana and own 2 pistols. I purchased them from pawn shops and have both bills of receipt. Is this adequate in this state, or am I in need of something else to legally have his gun? Secondly, what are the laws regarding carrying my guns in my car?
Thank you

Answer
Your state of Louisiana (excluding the political subdivision of New Orleans) may be said to be one of the "firearms-friendliest" states in the entire Union.

However, as I have repeatedly stressed, I am not an attorney, nor do I presume to give legal advise on AllExperts.com, so the best source for information regarding Louisiana's firearms regulations would be either the ATF Website at http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/statelaws/23rdedition/louisiana.pdf, or Alan Korwin's http://www.gunlaws.com/links/linksla.htm, which you might find a little more "plain English."

G'luck to you.
