I am in the process of joining right now. My recruiter is having me get a letter from the DA stating that my right to bear arms in now active. According to the Criminal Department when your probation is terminated your rights are reinstated. I live in San Mateo County in California and was charged with DV 5 years ago too. You can go the criminal department and request a docket and review of your record. It should say there that after 3 years or the time your probation is terminated the order is lifted. Or you can request to reappear in court and let the judge know what is going on. My situation is that the court no longer has jurisdiction over me as my probation has ended 2 years ago so the clerk requested that I get a letter from my recruiter with what the military needs in order for me to join. She then walked it over the judge who in return wrote my letter with the pertinent information and a copy is also attached to my file. I hope this helps.
