4 Wheel Drive/SUVs/four wheel wont engage properly

Question
i have a 1992 jeep wrangler YJ and i have been having some four wheel issues that i am wondering if you can help me fix. I have concluded that the transerfer case is shifting properly and that the problem is with the front axle. I took the vacuum powered shift motor off the axle and notice that the inner and outer axle shafts were not lining up right not allowing the shift collar to connect the two shafts. if i drive around with it in 4H it will eventually engage but i need it to be 100 percent good before i go anywhere offroad. This has been puzzling me for about a month now.
Thanks
Zach

Answer
Zach, I have ran into this in the past , and always seems to me that I ended up fixing or replacing the vaccum powered shift motor that you have taken off. If you havent figured anything out yet, I can give you a Jeep dealer that the guys are real smart with jeeps thanks ADAM
