About Gary R. Del Carlo
Expertise
I became a teenager in December 1954. That's about when Rock and Roll started. I started listening to music before that. I can probably answer a lot of different questions from this time period. I don't consider myself an expert in anything, I don't profess to have an answer to every question, but I promise to do my best.

Experience
I grew up as a teenager in the 50's, and have many 50'songs in my record collection. I'm still a rock and roller.

Education/Credentials
Associate Degree from City College of San Francisco

Question
what is the name of the group that recorded the song "marie" in the 1950's. It was also recorded(I believe) by Hoagie carmichael in the 40's

Answer
Jerry,

Hogie didn't sing that song as far as I know, but certainly a lot of people did. I only have it by one group, but I found out it's NOT the one you want. You want the one that was written by Irving Berlin with the lyrics below. I remember the Mills Brothers singing it, but I think the group you might be the Ravens or the Four Tunes.  The ravens didn't have a hit with it, but their song came out in 1951. . The Four Tunes had a #7 hit on 11/12/1953. Hope this helps.

Marie

Marie, Marie, Marie

Marie, the dawn is breaking
Marie, (ooh, Marie) you'll soon be waking
To find you heart is aching
And tears (and tears) will fall (will fall) as you recall
The moon in all its splendor
A kiss (ooh, a kiss) so very tender
The words, "Will you surrender
To me, (Marie), Marie, (Marie-ee)?"

<brief instrumental interlude-first line of verse>
Marie, you'll soon be waking
To find you heart is aching
And tears (and tears) will fall (will fall) as you recall
The moon in all its splendor
A kiss (ooh, a kiss) so very tender
The words, "Will you surrender
To me, (Marie), Marie, (Marie) Marie (Marie-ee-ee)?"
