Question
When my parents gave me my first Hi-fi record player, around 1957, they included a couple of albums.  One was:  CALYPSO CARNIVAL.  I played it hundreds of times, but do not have it now.  One of my favorites on it was: Rock Umbe.  Not sure about the spelling.  It had a great drumbeat and haunting voodoo theme.  Have tried to find it, or at least the words for a while.  If I remember correctly, the music on the album was recorded by various artists.    Here is how it begins:  "One night I took a chance, and I went to the voodoo dance, I was looking for new romance, that's why I went to the voodoo dance.  The medicine man looked mean, as he .......... can't remember the rest.  Can you help?  Thanks

Answer
Suzanne,

I don't know if anyone has answered your question for you yet, but in case they haven't, I have some answers for you.

The title of the song is called, "Rocombey" by Lord Cobra %26 Pana Afro Sounds. I can only find partial lyrics because I guess there's a problem with understanding part of the song, but I DO know where you can hear the song. You can download it there for 15 cents, but you have to sign up to download it.

Here at Amazon you pay more for the song 89 cents I believe, but it's easier to download.

Hope this answers your question

I can usually find lyrics, and titles of songs, or names of groups.

Experience

I grew up in the 50's. My teenage years were from 1954 to 1960. I collect records from the 50's and beyond in many genres. Lots of Doo Wop, my favorite music. I answered questions on this website for a while with very good results. I just got burned out and took a sabbatical.
