Expert: Skimmer Date: 6/25/2008 Subject: Artist of Song "Street lights"
Question I know this song is sang by a Black female artist. It was also the soundtrack to a movie. Don't know any of the lyrics.
Thanks
Answer Hi Raquel,
Great question! The song you are referring to is called "Street Life", and it was done by The Crusaders back in 1979. The guest vocalist on that track was Randy Crawford. Randy is an excellent artist in her own right, scoring two big hits from her 1989 album "Rich and Poor", a remake of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Wrap U Up".
"Street Life" was featured on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's excellent film, "Jackie Brown". I have included a link for you to hear the song, as well as the lyrics. Thanks for the question, hope this helps!
LYRICS:
I play the street life
Because there's no place I can go
Street life
And it's the only life I know
Street life
And there's a thousand parts to play
Street life
Until you play your life away
You let the people see
Just who you want to be
And every night you shine
just like a super star
That's how the life is played
A ten cent Masquerade
You dress, and walk, and talk
you're who you think you are
Street life
You can run away from time
Street life
For a nickel and a dime
Street life
But you better not get old
Street life
Or you're gonna feel the cold
There's always love for sale
A grown-up fairy tale
Prince charming always smiles
behind a silver spoon
And if you keep it young
Your song is always sung
Your love will pay your way
beneath the silver moon
