80s Music/I have no idea what this song is...
Expert: OneMixDJ - 10/1/2008
QuestionHello,
When I was about seven or eight years old (I am 21 now) I had this song I taped from a radio. It was a love song and to be honest, I don't remember any lyrics to it. Here is what I do know: It was a very soft, mellow song; it was a male with a bit of a "high" voice; It somewhat resembles Peter Cetera in 'Forever Tonight' when he sings the chorus and hits that high note in the chorus (... forEEEEver... that part...) I don't expect you to tell me what song it is (that would be a miracle!!!) But I was hoping maybe you knew of some other less-known artists it might possibly be. When I had the tape and had my mom listen to it, she originally thought it was Phil Collins, but I don't recall any effect on the man's voice and after listening to Cetera, I think it sounds a bit more like him. I have listened to all of the songs by both artists as well as several others. The reason I believe it is a lesser-known artist is because my mom KNOWS her music, and this song just drew a blank with her. I am guessing it is from the 80s or maybe '90, '91, but I suppose it could even be late 70's.
Anything you can give me will help a great deal. I am getting married in November and would love to play the song at my wedding if I could ever find it.
Thanks so much!
AnswerHi Christine,
Unfortunately, it will be hard to nail down the artist; let alone the song you're looking for.
Here are a few suggestions that I hope can help in your search.
And by all means Christine, run these suggestion through your mother as well.
My reasoning behind the suggestons is two-fold.
Either it will lead to the song, or perhaps jog the memory a bit to who else it might be within the same thought process. :)
In addition to Peter Cetera, I would also consider.
Peter Gabriel - Has a vocal range similar to Phil Collins
Peter was the original lead man for Genesis before Phil.
Todd Rundgren - "Hello It's Me" is one of his most popular sogs, but I know Todd has had a string of hits aside of that one.
Neil Sedaka - Has a very wide vocal range that can reach as high as Peter Cetera. His hit "Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do" is a good example and Neil has a long period of releases that justifies consideration.
Robert Lamm - Robert Lamm is the lead vocal of Chicago's "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" Although Robert doesn't have the same range as Peter, keep in mind that Peter was involved in the vocals in the background.
Mike Love - Beach Boys
Frankie Valli - The Four Seasons
In another effort to help jog memory, I have included a link that provides a list of some of the most well known male vocalists.
Here is the link:

In doing your research, may I sugest using YouTube which will likely contain songs of most of these vocalists. Aside from having a wide range of material, it's also FREE. :)
If there's anything else I can provide, please don't hesitate to submit a follow-up question.
My best wishes to you and Mom in finding your song!
Kindest Regards,
Frankie (OneMixDJ)
