80s Music/blues/rock research paper
Expert: OneMixDJ - 2/5/2008
QuestionHello, I am doing a research paper on how key attributes of the blues are found in rock and roll. Such as the blue note, the tendency to improvise, and etc. My thesis statement is "A combination of European instruments with black, African style, many of the blues' key attributes were incorporated into a new style of music later known as rock and roll." Could you direct me to any articles or web sites that show how the roots of rock are in the blues? Also, any articles or web sites that analyze how the blues is apparent in any famous rock band would be a good source for me too. Thanks for your time. Any help is appreciated.
AnswerHi Brian,
I don't really have any websites (per se), but what I would do is start with Google on a search of the origins of rock & roll and work your way there.
I would also include in my reaearch, some of the rock pioneers that came from origins related to blues; such as Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Ray Charles, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Charlie Rich; as well as producers such as Sam Phillips (Sun Records) and Quincy Jones.
Keep in mind that there were different strains of Blues originating from Mississippi, Tennessee (Memphis Blues), Alabama, and also Louisiana.
If you would like a recommendation of a website for research, one of my personal favorites is allmusic.com. Registration is free and you'll find a wealth of information.
Hope this helps!
