Question
I know I'm not crazy.  I have a fairly good musical memory, and I know that the version of the Close Encounters theme that is currently available for download (from Meco's greatest hits CD) is NOT the version that was played back in 1977 on the radio.  The speed and whole feel of the song is different.  Can you confirm or deny this?  I have not listened explicitly to a 45 from 1977 yet.  I figured I'd check with the experts before doing that.  Thanks for any help you can offer!

Answer
Hi Randy,

To answer your first question; no, you're not going crazy. The version on the Meco Greatest Hits CD (1997) is a chopped up version from the original. If you're looking for the original version, you will need to either seek the actual Meco album "Encounters Of Every Kind" or the 12" single; both which were actually released in 1977.

A little further checking I did shows that both 1977 options are listed as available on Amazon.com.

Hope this helps!
