Hello! Trying to find a song that my dad used to play. It's a popular 80s song with a male singer, but there is a children's choir in the background at the end of the song. Can't remember the words, but the chorus is something like "say it loud, say it free, through the years..." I think. Can you help?

hey susan, the song you had in mind is called "The Living Years" by Mike+The Mechanics which happened to be the title of the second album of the band released in 1988. "The Living Years" was co-written by Mike Rutherford and B. A. Robertson, both of whom had recently lost their fathers. The song combined features of both writers' relationships with their fathers; it dealt with Rutherford's strained relationship with his late father and the birth of Robertson's son three months after his father's death.

Mike + The Mechanics were an English rock/pop band formed in 1985 as a side project of Mike Rutherford, a founding member of Genesis. "All I Need Is a Miracle", "Taken In", and "The Living Years" were the songs they were best remembered with.
