Who were the first black British bands to be played on MTV. I know Jocko was one of the first solo performers, but I'm looking specifically for groups.

The very first black British band to be featured on MTV were THE SPECIALS. Their members are not actually pure black but an integrated mix of white and black musicians. But that will put them also as the very first artists played on MTV that were not exclusively white. Their 1980 video RAT RACE was actually the 58th video played on the very first day of programming. Of course, we all know THE BUGGLES' VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR was the very first to be played.
