80s Music/Who sang this song please?!

Question
Last heard it about 1987. A male singer, not soloist. The chorus went something like: (Lead singer): "I want you back" followed by backup singers Oh -oh- oh, oh -oh -oh, followed by lead singer repeating "I want you back". Sometimes the word "back" was stretched to sound like "baaaaaackkkkk". I think the group is American but not sure. I think the song came out 1984-85-ish. When I last heard it in 1987 it was already a few years old. Thanks for your help! Hopefully you can solve it- I've wracked my brains and internet searches. I keep getting Jackson 5 and Bananarama! :(

Answer
this one popped into my head instantly  but its later than you mentioned  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is6gtilerPk

NKOTB ( New Kids on the Block) Did do a remake of the Jackson 5 hit "I want you back" and they ae still doing it on their reunion tours. In that time frame also  New Edition ( Bobby Brown) did this song..and several other remakes of classics while on tour)  I am having trouble finding a video of it though!  Is the song the same as the Jackson 5 classic just sang in a bit more modern format? I'm 99.9% positive you are looking for NEW EDITIONS VERSION of this classic...please let me know so I can either know we have solved your riddle or if we need to look on for your answer.

Expertise

A variety of musical questions. I am familiar with many genres and many decades of music. Though my love for music is based primarily in 70's Country and 80's rock, I am a huge fan of 50's and 60's music as well. Everything from Frank Sinatra, to Dusty Springfeild, to Johnny Cash or the Statler Brothers!

Experience

D-J for radio ( oldies classic hits ) Did fill in D-J on weekends and from "atop the building" in a restaraunt . We specialized in 50's and 60's music. ( Bubblegum music and early Motown) But, there were several occasssions where we would "smuggle in" some Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, and the Doors.

Publications
My short stories can be seen in the book entitled "A Modern Compilation of Short Stories for Children" published by the Children's Literary Guild. Published in 1999.

Education/Credentials
I Hold degrees in Criminal Law and Business Management from Marshall University and the Hagarstown division of Frostburg College respectively. However, my degrees have little to with my greatest accomplishment, in my opinion atleast! I am a published writer. My contribution can be seen in the book entitled "A Modern Compilation of Short Stories for Children" published by the Children's Literary Guild. I love to write, and I love music. Most of my stories are written on a musical premise.
