80s Music/I don't go to USA

Question
Hi Mirrorman

It is said the song "I don't go to USA" (originally released in 1987) by German ex-Trio singer Stephan Remmler made number 1 on the Filipino charts.

Do you have any further information about this incident:
* on which chart did it happen? (is there an internet resource?)
* when did this happen?
* and: why? I mean, how come a German guy reaches number 1 on the Philippines?!

I'm wondering if you can answer these questions

Many thanks in advance, Philip

Answer
Dear Philip,
In all honesty, I am not familiar with the song except that it sounded like ‘Da Da Da’. The funny thing is I know most of the songs that came out in the Philippines but this one sounds new to me. Having said that, I also know  which songs charted. And if this particular song was a top hit then, it would not be difficult to identify as it would have been played regularly almost everywhere,  and heard from radio, to public places, to club circuits).
Unfortunately, it’s not easy to obtain our music chart history listing and I haven’t found one in the internet either. Also, several music stations make their own either based on record sales or airplay or both.  I listen to these top ten radio programs and even used to record it especially the year-end countdowns… and again, I have never heard this song in the charts. So I won’t be able to answer your question as to when it happened.
As for a German guy  (or a foreign act) hitting our charts….it not unusual for as long as there’s great music, people will listen to it.
Cheers!
