The Girl with a Golden Heart is one of my most favorite of REO Speedwagon. When was the last time that they sung it at a live concert

Hi Bobby,

This is a tough question and usually not something I would entertain trying to answer.  But, although I wasn't familiar with the song prior to your question, I am an REO Speedwagon fan.  So, here goes...

The song title is actually "Girl With The Heart Of Gold" and was an album track from the 1982 album Good Trouble. It was not released as a single and therefore has not charted as a "hit" song.  As most concerts for popular artists consist of the hits/favorites from previous albums, plus a few newer tracks from their latest album, it's a safe bet that - if played at all in concert - this song was likely only played during REO's Good Trouble Tour of 1982-83.  It's possible they may dust this off to play in later tours, but that's an exception to the rule for most artists.

Per the website "", REO Speedwagon is still an actively touring band, having played concerts in every year consecutively since 1970. is a wiki based site with loads of information about various artist's concerts, including as the title suggests setlists.  However, this site is dependent on users entries so it doesn't include setlists for every concert.  Looking at their entry for REO Speedwagon, I can tell you of at least one known appearance of the song in concert, on 8/18/1982 at the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Here is the site with that date's setlist: It's possible the song was performed at other times on the tour, but this is not a given assumption, since their setlists appear to change throughout this tour.

Other sources to possibly get a more definitive answer: an REO Speedwagon fan page like this one - or you could ask the question on REO's Facebook page -

Hope this helps,

I can answer all questions related to hit songs and pop artists of the rock and roll era. My specialty is U.S. Billboard Top 40 chart history and one hit wonders from 1950's through the 90's. I can also research lyrics to songs. I am more knowledgeable in the area of pop and rock songs, but I am willing to research soul and country songs. I cannot answer questions relating to classical, jazz, or rap songs. Also, I'm not an expert on music videos.

I am an avid reader of Joel Whitburn Top 40 books and a collector of all pop and rock hit songs.

My educational credentials include a college degree in history and over twenty-five years of life experience as a fan of popular music.
