80s Music/80's retro party
Expert: Bong Santos - 9/2/2006
QuestionAh okay, thanks for the reply. About performers, any referral would do, either DJs or performers now that do great 80's songs. If they were big back in the 80's, it'd be better but it's not really a requirement. Any referral would be a great help. I'll check out Noel Macanaya. The concept would preferably center around 80's dance but we still would like to cater to a mostly male audience. Thanks for the help Bong!

Hi Bong, we're doing this retro party at Fort Strip Square on October 7 and I was wondering if you could help us out in this event possibly as a DJ. I also have some other questions you could probably answer, like maybe the famous 80's dance DJ's/performers at the time and now. We had DJ Boyet Almazan spin last event and that was great. We're looking to expand on the concept. Would you have a landline I could contact you in? This would be great if we can work together on this event. YOu can contact me at 09285025248. Pls. email me as soon as you can. Thanks!

Dear Carlo,
Much as I want to help you or join the event, I politely decline the invitation. I used to be a DJ in an FM station but I just play songs then, not the DJs that mix music. I know how it works (as I used to own a mobile disco club) but I don't do it professionaly. The last time I had a hand on a turntable was like fifteen years ago. I'm honored to have been invited, man.
Your question regarding DJs or performers, I kinda not getting it. I know the best DJ during the late 80s and early 90s is Noel Macanaya, he's a record producer now I think. As for performers, do you mean live performers or 80s disco performers on records?

AnswerDear Carlo,
I'm sorry I can't give you any other referrals. I have not been in touch with guys from this business for so many years now. But I can suggest that you visit the Baywalk strip one of these weekends. They got several good bands there that play 70s and 80s songs. You can probably talk to them after one of their gigs. They are good, I tell you. I saw a band that performed at Ram's, they play 70s and 80s as well, they have a male vocalist and 2 female vocalists that would be good to your male audience. I just don't remember the band's name. Go visit them.
Maraming salamat po!
