I have occasionally heard a song with a guy saying words very
quickly (I believe they are names of people) then a chorus of
something like, "...on the radio told me".

I believe it's an 80's song...???

There's only one song I remember when I read your letter. I don't know any other song that contains names of persons (with places and events, actually). You could be talking about WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE by BILLY JOEL from his 1989 album STORM FRONT. Check the lyrics and see if it's the one:
