Question
Bong,

Rihanna did a recent version of SOS and I'm sure I remember an earlier version of that song, perhaps in the 80's?

Answer
Dear Mike,

Sorry for the rather late reply.

SOS by RIHANNA, a number one song from last year from her album A GIRL LIKE ME sampled the main synthesizer hook of SOFT CELL's TAINTED LOVE. It also contained some lyrics taken from or inspired by GLORIA JONES' 1964 original version. ED COBB, formerly of THE FOUR PREPS,who wrote the song received co-songwriting credits. The song became popular when SOFT CELL recorded it for their 1982 album NON STOP EROTIC CABARET, eventually peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 17, 1982.

In the video, RIHANNA was seen apparently listening to TAINTED LOVE on her cellphone as SOFT CELL's album cover can be seen on the display.

Maraming salamat po!!

Expertise

I can answer just about everything from the 80`s, rock, pop, trivias, artist infos, Billboard chart positions, albums, etc. But songs that became hit in the Philippines and OPM songs are my expertise. I grew on 80`s music and still listening to 80`s music as it is the best era in music history for me. My friends call me the walking encyclopedia of 80`s music. I got books & collections of CDs, all from the 80`s.

Experience

Let's just say music is my life and my source is a lifetime of knowledge about 80's music and then some.
