Expert: Bong Santos - 6/3/2006
QuestionHelp! This was recorded in 87 or 88.
The morning seems so cold.
Like waking up in a strange place.
Looking deep into your eyes.
Knowing smile that seems to lie.
I know I've been here too long, don't know who you are.
But I used to love someone ,just like you.
Who would hold me in his arms ,just like you.
To the ends of the earth,'till the end of time.
But he never could say goodbye, just like you.
AnswerDear David,
Undoubtedly, that song is JUST LIKE YOU by MARTHA DAVIS. MARTHA DAVIS, born January 15, 1951 in Berkeley, California, used to be the guiding force and the voice of the Los Angeles-based band THE MOTELS. We remember them for hitting it big in the 80s with songs like ONLY THE LONELY (Hot 100 #9, July 17, 1982), SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER (Hot 100 #9, November 19, 1983), REMEMBER THE NIGHT (Hot 100 #36, January 28, 1984), SHAME (Hot 100 #21, September 14, 1985) & SHOCK (Hot 100 #84, November 2, 1985). In 1987, she released her first solo album POLICY which contains the minor hit DON'T TELL ME THE TIME (Hot 100 #80, December 26, 1987). JUST LIKE YOU, written by Martha Davis & John Dexter and a minor radio hit, is included in this album. Here's how it goes:
JUST LIKE YOU / MARTHA DAVIS
The morning seems so cold
Like waking up in a strange place
Looking deep into your eyes
Knowing smile that seems to lie
I know I've been here too long
Don't know who you are
But I used to love someone
Just like you
Who would hold me in his arms
Just like you
To the ends of the earth
Till the end of time
But he never could say goodbye
Just like you
Don't say a word
Don't say anything
Cause I've been here
Standing in the rain
With my heart keeping time
As the fantasy unwinds
Watching everything change
Nothing stays the same
But I used to love someone
Just like you
Who would hold me in his arms
Just like you
To the ends of the earth
Till the end of time
But he never could say goodbye
Just like you
Looking deep into your eyes
Knowing smile that seems to lie
Know I've been here before
Don't know who you are
But I used to love someone
Just like you
Who would hold me in his arms
Just like you
To the ends of the earth
Till the end of time
But he never could say goodbye
Just like you.
Maraming Salamat Po!
