AnswerDear Glynn,
My apology for the late reply.
The song you have in mind is one of the most romantic songs ever written and also one of the most covered. Originally written by CINDY WALKER & EDDY ARNOLD in 1955, the song is YOU DON'T KNOW ME. EDDY ARNOLD first recorded the song in 1955 but the first who made it a hit was JERRY VALE, his version reached #14 on the US Pop Chart on October 1956. RAY CHARLES' 1962 version, however, was the most successful, reaching #2 on October 1962. In 2004, he re-recorded it together with DIANA KRALL for his album GENIUS LOVES COMPANY, which was released shortly after he died. Some of the artists who covered the song includes ELVIS PRESLEY (1967), KENNY LOGGINS (1977), MICKEY GILLEY (1981), JUICE NEWTON (1984), JANN ARDEN (from 1997's MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING soundtrack), HARRY CONNICK, JR. (2004) & MICHAEL BUBLE (2005). Here's how it goes:
YOU DON'T KNOW ME
You give your hand to me
And then you say, "Hello."
And I can hardly speak,
My heart is beating so.
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well.
Well, you don't know me.
(no you don't know me)
No you don't know the one
Who dreams of you each night;
And longs to kiss your lips
And longs to hold you tight
To you I'm just a friend.
That's all I've ever been.
Cause you don't know me.
(no you don't know me)
For I never knew the art of making love,
Though my heart aches with love for you.
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by.
A chance that you might love me too.
(love me too)
You give your hand to me,
And then you say, "Goodbye."
I watched you walk away,
Beside the lucky guy
I know you'll never ever know
The one who loved you so.
Well, you don't know me
(But I never knew the art of making love, )
(Though my heart aches with love for you. )
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by.
A chance that you might love me too.
(love me too)
Oh, you give your hand to me,
And then you say, "Goodbye."
I watched you walk away,
Beside the lucky guy
Oh, you'll never ever know
The one who loved you so.
No, you don't know me
(you don't love me, you don't know me)
Maraming salamat po!
