80s Music/female version of The Rain

Question
Hi, I know Oran Juice Jones sang The Rain, also did a daughter version with Ledisi where he plays the dad talking to the cheating boyfriend.  But, there was also a female version where the girlfriend he was originally talking to who was running around with the "hush puppy shoe wearing crumbcake" made a song in rebuttal to his, talking about how she didn't need his Gucci handbags and was not a squirrel trying to get a nut.  Do you remember?  Who sang the girlfriend version??

Answer
Dear Laurie,

Her real name was as mysterious as she is now. Some say it was CANDI SHANNON. Whatever her real name was, she was a DJ for WKYS in Washington, D.C. She goes by the name of MISS THANG and the song was called THUNDER AND LIGHTNING. It came out in 1986 on TOMMY BOY RECORDS as an answer to ORAN JUICE JONES' THE RAIN. The song was a minor hit in the US Hot R&B Chart and Hot Dance Music / Maxi Singles Sales Chart back in October, 1986. It was released only on 12" maxi vinyl singles with THE QUIET STORM as its B-side. THE RAIN, incidentally, managed to squeezed itself to the US Top 10, eventually peaking at #9 on November, 1986 on the Hot 100 Chart.

Expertise

I can answer just about everything from the 80`s, rock, pop, trivias, artist infos, Billboard chart positions, albums, etc. But songs that became hit in the Philippines and OPM songs are my expertise. I grew on 80`s music and still listening to 80`s music as it is the best era in music history for me. My friends call me the walking encyclopedia of 80`s music. I got books & collections of CDs, all from the 80`s.

Experience

Let's just say music is my life and my source is a lifetime of knowledge about 80's music and then some.
