I have been racking my brain, but to no avail. I am almost sure there was a song in about 1982/1983 which made the Uk top 40 and the lyrics were something like this in the chorus:
ET phone home, a message to phone???, since you' ve been gone, ET phone home???

It was quite a catchy song, uptempo and was sung by a  female vocalist/possibly a band . I don't beleive it was on the ET soundtrack and perhaps I've got the ET part wrong in the song anyway, but it's really bugging me. Does this ring any bells with you????

I don't have any idea of the song you're talking about. The closest I have in mind is a song by the novelty group S.P.O.C.K. fronted by EDDIE BENGTSSON titled E.T. PHONE HOME. But the song came out in 1997. I don't know if it is the same song.

Here's how it goes:
