in the late or mid 1980s  there was a radio station named 101 klol there was a dj named moby. any way he played a song that i really liked . its lyrics were i need a lifeline ,throw me a lifeline. im going down this time.. i could have sworn the group was called planet p, but i cannot find any thing about this song being sung by them . any ideas?,

The clues you gave pointed me to this answer. I hope it's the right one. The lyrics are similar to the British band URIAH HEEP's LIFELINE. LIFELINE was a cut from their 1989 album RAGING SILENCE. Here's the exact lyrics. Check it out if it's the one:
