Question
QUESTION: Hello, do you know what colour the labels were in the first edition of the vinyl box set ? I think they should all be black except for the 12" single however I've seen a set on ebay with blue labels without the kangaroo symbol ( second pressings ) and I own a set with a mixture od Australian and New Zealand made records. I doubt either set contains its original LPs. I'll appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks, Trevor.

ANSWER: Hello Trevor

Thank you for your question. The original first pressing of the ACDC1 Australian box set would include records with dark labels (dark blue, no kangaroo, sometimes mistaken for black). The reissues would be red label albums.

Bill

QUESTION: Thank you for the information Bill. I've only found one set with dark blue labels. That issue can't be common. There's an early issue with all black labels on the LPs and red labels on Cold Hearted Man and an issue with a mixture of red labels and black labels. The last EMI version is all red labels and the final version was made by CBS in the late 1980's with all red labels but without Cold Hearted Man. It's in a plastic box as opposed to the EMI cardboard box. The blue label set is on a foreign ebay site but I've only seen the other versions I've mentioned on ebay Australia. I can't say for sure a blue label set isn't original but if it is then it's very rare. Do you know about the other issues ? It seems like my set has been put together by a previous owner. The rare iron on transfer is with it but that's the only consolation. Thank you, Trevor.

Answer
Hi Trevor

Thank you for your question. I do not know of any other versions (vinyl) that this set has been issued on. The CBS version in the plastic box seems to be a bit more elusive than the others.
The original set was released in 1981. The reissue (EMI) was issued in 1987 with red labels *(with credits on the top half of the labels only), and did not contain the iron on transfer.

Best Regards,

Bill
