AIDS/hiv-2

Question
I first want to thank everyone on this site for their quick responses.  Years ago i was tested for hiv-1 with an oraquick rapid test and the test came back non-reactive.  My incident of concern was with a man I really new nothing about.  Do I need to be concerned about hiv-2?

Answer
Dear Lola:

Peace, great question.  HIV-2 was/is more prevalent in West Africa and elsewhere, but as you don't know about him or his travels and contacts, you might as well be tested.  As it is "years ago" a rapid test would surely react to antibodies at this point and provide you greater peace of mind.

Best to you and yours,

Terry
